Clinical Research Project Manager

Mikia Croom is a clinical research project manager at PolicyLab and Clinical Futures at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Mikia currently supports Dr. Sarah Wood’s research on improving access to sexual health services and prevention of HIV and STIs in adolescents.

Prior to joining PolicyLab, Mikia was a member of CHOP’s Nutrition Center where she coordinated and conducted two Investigator-initiated pharmaceutical industry funded studies designed to evaluate the nutritional growth and GI impact of recently approved FDA medications for treatment of Cystic Fibrosis in children 4 to 24 months and 2 to 5 years.  She also conducted research for an FDA-qualifying comparison study of a cystic fibrosis medication. Mikia’s previous work at CHOP also included facilitating research on healthy and febrile subjects in partnership with Philadelphia’s Monell Chemical Senses Center.

Before her career in clinical research at CHOP, Mikia spent the majority of her career in HIV/STI prevention and health promotion research at the University of Pennsylvania. She worked both locally and internationally with varying minority populations, including adolescents living with and affected by HIV. She has a background in intervention development, facilitation and training, HIV testing, and pre- and post-test counseling. Mikia earned a Master in Education from the University of Pennsylvania with a focus on school and mental health counseling.

Mikia will be drawing on her wealth of experience in pediatric research, education and counseling, and HIV treatment and prevention to lead Dr. Wood’s research on integrating PrEP and HIV prevention into primary care for adolescents.
