Visit Article

A recent proliferation of programs to address patients’ health-related social needs (HRSNs) is driven in part by payer and regulatory mandates to collect and report social risk screening data.(1) As a result, documentation of HRSNs in the electronic health record (EHR) is becoming common practice.(2) However, previous research examining caregiver perceptions of HRSN documentation has yielded mixed results.(3,4) This qualitative study uses data from a large free-text dataset to describe reasons for comfort and discomfort with HRSN documentation in the EHR among caregivers of pediatric patients.
