PolicyLab and CHOP’s Violence Prevention Initiative to Develop Firearm Safety Evidence to Action Brief
Today, PolicyLab is proud to announce a new collaboration with our partners at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Violence Prevention Initiative (VPI) to apply an evidence-based, child-focused lens to the issue of firearm safety.
Despite increased attention across the U.S. to the epidemic of gun violence over the last several years, the rate of firearm-related injury in children has remained largely unchanged, and the rate of firearm fatalities continues to increase. Proposals exist to prevent firearm injuries, but research looking at the impact on youth outcomes is lacking.
In partnership with VPI, PolicyLab is seeking to understand which evidence-based interventions work to protect our children and teens. Over the next few months, we will develop an Evidence to Action brief that highlights existing research and provides policy recommendations for new public health approaches to protect youth from accidental firearm injury. Be sure to read more about this important project and resource that we hope will serve as an evidence-based tool for policymakers to keep families safe in their communities and beyond.
