PolicyLab studies relationships between Army deployment, mental illness, and family violence
A study funded by the US Army Medical Research and Material Command (MRMC) partners PolicyLab with the US Army to examine the relationships between deployment, mental health issues, and violence within military families. The study, which includes 418,011 active duty service members and their nearly 1.2 million dependents, builds upon prior research that has demonstrated increased risk to family members of deployed soldiers. The PolicyLab study seeks to define when injuries and violence to family members occur in relationship to deployments and subsequent mental health visits of soldiers. Understanding the timing of violence and injuries in relationship to the critical moments in the lives of military families can help the US Army better target their preventative resources before, during or after deployments. 1-page summary of this study.
