Uncorrected vision problems can exacerbate learning difficulties, social isolation and emotional distress. Children in foster care already face disproportionate risk for these difficulties. Early identification and treatment of vision issues can significantly improve a child’s ability to success academically and engage socially.
In this resource, we outline the challenges that youth in foster care face to getting glasses and highlight what foster parents, practitioners, educators, child welfare professionals and others that engage with youth in foster care can do to support the vision needs of these children.
