Beth Hallowell PhD
Beth Hallowell (she/her) serves as PolicyLab's Communications Director. In her role, she leads communications strategy to advance PolicyLab's strategic objectives. She works with PolicyLab leaders and experts to elevate PolicyLab's profile among key audiences. She also collaborates with PolicyLab's communications and policy teams to expand its reach, develop new audiences, and position PolicyLab as a go-to organization for decision-makers and funders.
Beth loves using strategic communications to make research shine - and to get it into the hands of policymakers who can use it. She brings more than 20 years of experience in communications and research to the role. Most recently, she served as the director of campaign communications and analytics at the American Friends Service Committee, an international Quaker advocacy and humanitarian organization. She also teaches policy communications at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Social Policy and Practice. She started her career in health communications and behavior change campaigns in the U.S. Peace Corps in Guatemala.
Beth received her doctorate in medical anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania, where her research focused on providers' and patients' experiences of maternal health reforms in Guatemala and southeastern Pennsylvania. She lives in South Philadelphia with her husband and two daughters.
