As communities reopen across the U.S., developing strategies to prevent another wave of widespread COVID-19 transmission is essential. Many states are mobilizing contact tracing to mitigate continued spread of the virus, but PolicyLab Scientific Director Meredith Matone, DrPH, MHS, and PolicyLab researcher Deanna Marshall, MPH, argue that a pragmatic public health approach to the next phase of our COVID-19 response should rely more heavily on surveillance and prioritize testing resources and contact tracing protocols for front-line essential workers, those living in nursing homes, shelters and other congregate settings, and medically high-risk individuals.
