Deepak Palakshappa MD, MSHP
Deepak Palakshappa is a faculty member at PolicyLab at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). He is also an attending physician and instructor of general pediatrics at the Center for Pediatric Clinical Effectiveness (CPCE) at CHOP. Dr. Palakshappa is interested in studying current policies and systems and how they put individuals at risk for poor health, especially for low-income individuals. He is particularly interested in research and population-based policy interventions targeting obesity and food insecurity. He is currently examining state laws governing school nutrition and physical activity and their association with child weight. He is also conducting a mixed methods study addressing household food insecurity in suburban pediatric practices.
Dr. Palakshappa completed his internship and residency at Massachusetts General Hospital after receiving his MD from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and a BS in biology and psychology from Birmingham-Southern College. He recently received a Master’s of Science in Health Policy Research from the University of Pennsylvania.
